Rostam’s Seven Labours
The Seven Labours were seven difficult tasks undertaken by
Rostam, the greatest of the Iranian heroes, accompanied,
in most instances, only by his faithful and sagacious steed
Rakhsh to liberate Kay Kavous from the Divs in Mazandaran.
The story was retold by Ferdowsi in his epic poem, The Book
of Kings (Shahnameh) and it is Rostam’s first mission. These
illustrations are also the first part of a wholly illustrated Book
of Kings in a long term project in progress.
